Them sweary Northern folks seem to enjoy their Peaks Pootles (I suppose it gives them a welcome break from working down t'pit or in t'mill).

Pook's Pootle rules:

1) if you're fast, hold the gates and count the folks through
2) if you're slow - have something to talk about with the other 20 people with you
3) bring cake

Pootles aren't a typical 'group ride'. I started them 'cos I hated being the person at the back. I wanted a group ride for the people at the back. There aren't any people at the back in a pootle.

It sounds like just the ticket if:

- like me, you've fallen out of the habit of riding really, and with it the consequent lack of any whippetness there might once have been, it sounds just the ticket.
- like me, you have an other half who's relatively new to biking and needs a genle introduction to group rides
- like me, you enjoy riding a bike around the countryside and enjoying the company of the people you're riding with. And cake.

Would there be any interest in something similar down here, around the soaring, majestic peaks of the Cotswolds? I'm happy to organise something if there is.

We might even make a trip to join in if the gets off the ground. You;ll have to get it past Pook's lawyers first, mind...

Could aim for one of the weekends at the end of November? 17th or 24th?If it proves popular enough it could even be vaguely semi-regular.

This sounds interesting. Whereabouts in the Cotswolds would it be?

Er, Winchcombe? Could do something HONC-esque.

Not ridden the Cotswolds in ages (or for that matter seen your lovely face!) so would probably be up for it! 🙂

I'd be up for another trip down, if you can arrange some better weather this time. It was far from the tropical paradise I'd been lead to believe, where the greatest risk would be from falling coconuts 😉

Looks a wee bit for far me, though I need to so as much riding in Englandandwales as I can before the border closes in 2015.

Cotswolds? Is that down past Birmingham?
Never ridden it and if it means I can ride through Clarkson's garden and annoy the grumpy old twunt, I could be very tempted.
Would I need jabs and visas etc? 😀

Edit: What tyres for a Cotswolds Pootle?

I'd be interested in doing a Cotswold Pootle 😀

I'm about 20 miles North near Bideford/Alcester and can do either date at the moment.

I might be able to bring my bro' too - he's quite new to this malarky so it would be good for him.

Tyres - anything that'll cope with this:

🙂

TBH, I can put a route together that'll avoid the worst of it. Anything will do. If it's anything like when Binners came down it'll whichever will burn the longest to stave off the hypothermia. By 'eck it were nippy. 😯

We won't be going through Clarkson's back garden unfortunately, but it might be something I research for the future 😈

And you don't need any specific jabs, but do be aware that if you're allergic to tweed you may be in trouble...

Picturesque cart track/country lane-ish stuff interspersed with more interesting stuff. None of it particularly difficult though; all entirely newbie friendly, but with enough interest (hopefully) to keep your general weekend warrior entertained. Gnarr-CoreMax riders may be a bit bored.

Thinking of my little lady, it would be good to have some laydees along.

I could also be up for this dates depending, only about 1.5hours which is no more than I regularly travel to the peaks.

Sounds good to me.

Is a pootle faster or slower than a bimble?

I'm game. Hell, I might even have proper brakes by then which would be nice.

IHN - if open to all, we could be interested, although I suspect that one of us would prefer to wait for more a clement season!

A bit, except when it's slower, in which case it definitely the quicker of the two, unless it's a slow bimble, in which it's not, apart from when it is (or isn't). Clear?

[edit]and it's definately, definately open to all.

I enjoyed it last time out. Right up to the point that my toes fell off due to frostbite

What sort of dates were you thinking fella?

Dates wise, I shall pencil in the 17th or 24th. I would imagine it's more likely to be the 24th but need to speak to High Command...

Conditions couldn't have been worse than a Cotswold Massive ride a few years ago - sub-zero temperatures, black ice on the roads, the field of doom. 😯

Ah, I remember it well 🙂

However, it was as nothing compared to when Binners came down. Seriously, the very coldest, knackerederest and most close to a total sense of humour failure that I have EVER been...

I'd be up for a pootle am fat as heck at the moment and pootling is about all I can do, (though Mrs Pepper and I did a 110 mile Stratford London to Stratford upon Avon ride the other week) We were very very very slow!

Count me in - I've been riding a lot around Winchcombe a fair bit lately on my lonesome and love the ride - sounds like fun and would be good to meet up . If you haven't any tweed, try and bring a spotty hankie or at the very least tug your forlock once you're in sight of cheltenham 🙂

I'd be interested in this, did the Peaks one yesterday but live in Midlands so I could make this one if it's the 24th weekend. I also have some (female) friends who would be interested if it's newbie friendly. 🙂

I remember fondly the ride last time binners came down! Perfect weather for snowball fights anyway... Was probably only about 15 miles but felt more like 50 it was so hard going!

IHN, if you get to work now, you should be finished installing underfloor heating on the trails in time for the 24th so it's nice and dry for us all! 😉

I am just not riding right now...a "Date in the Diary" might be just what I need to get off my arse.

Did a super cold "Cotswold massive" a few years ago..remember having feet so numb I rode on my heels for miles because I just couldnt clip in 🙂 .

Ok to point my facebook group to this thread?
