Hmmm I am indifferent to this. It's like the Star Wars prequels all over again.

(Do love the first 2 Alien movies - but the universe has been soured by too many crappy movies)

Prometheus again? I don't think I could bear the disappointment.

Interesting that they've got rid of the Prometheus name...... it's a trap!

I must be the only one on here who liked Prometheus. Although I didn't much like the early alien films , much more a predator fan.

Most disappointing thread ever.

I like Prometheus too but so many people expected answers that weren't really there.

We live in a weird time where movie trailers have trailers.

I'm a big fan of the franchise so looking forward to it, but I'm looking forward to Blomkamp's Alien a lot more.

If it has a coherent plot, semi believable characters and nice visuals I guess I'll settle for that at this stage.

Unpopular claim, but I'd agree. Or if not "best," certainly "my favourite."

I've read the odd thing from people who got to see a 15 min 'thing' about it including the trailer - they're all very positive, scary, moody and shocking - proper alien.

And?

Who needs a storyline anyway? Effects & stuff, that's what we need for SciFi.

I prefer a better version of Aliens Vs Predators Vs Human Vs that large "human" ... something along that line.

Apart from Alien the other one I like is Aliens Vs Predators ... the rest shite.

Or the human (the survivor) visited the large human's planet etc ...

Riley Scott better make sure the camera shot is minimal like Spaghetti Western rather than 50 frames per minutes like top of the pops ...

Effects make no film.

Lord of the Rings would be pretty jarring without them. I think Avatar might suffer too.

Two astronauts making coffee.

First astronaut: I can't seem to pour milk into my coffee.

Second astronaut: In space, no-one can. Here, use cream.

Yes, of course. However without effect many films would be unwatchable.

Nahhh, best one was Alien 3
Followed by Resurrection.

Aliens is awesome, mind, but is pure James Cameron. He took it and owned it

Prometheus was a terrible, terrible film. It was wrong on so many levels in always amazes when anyone says they like it - can you not see the shitness?!

I know films are subjective but it's got so many "mistakes" which are so elementary that it should become crap no matter how you look at it.

After watching that, not feeling optimistic - retreads of Hitchcock, Wes Craven, Sam Rami and nods to Mr Ridley's own back catalogue - at least mr fassbender is back playing Peter o toole 😀

I thought that looked really good myself.
Doubt I'll get to see it though as the wife hates anything scary.

You're not suggesting she won't allow you out on your own to see something she doesn't like, are you?

It's IIRC supposed to bridge the gap between Prometheus & Alien, so I guess it's the Alien equivalent of Rogue Squadron...

The trailer has me interested, however I guess the company must have a lot of disposable ships as they never seem to come back when they find a Xenomorph, hope they wont answer too many questions about the origin of the aliens....I like the mystery.

Well it's got facehugger eggs so that's a good start for me.

I like the mystery too but I also hate being left in suspense, my own imagination is shit. 🙂

I've got a fair idea of the plot, the mystery I was talking about was the origin of the alien and their history with the engineers

Looks like a remake of Aliens.

Big, sticky eggs, facehuggers, people dying in spectacularly unpleasant ways...
Works for me.
This makes three films I'm quietly excited about for next year; Bladerunner and Ghost In The Shell being the others.

I'm looking forward to the tie in, if there is one, but also the timeline from Prometheus, the giants, and the morphology of the alien in comparison to the end of Prometheus version.
I actually liked Prometheus as a stand alone movie. Could have done more, but it kinda worked.
Alien, I thought was a bit meh, as was alien 3, but the dog alien was a nice touch and hinted on morphologival mimikry of the aliens.

Aliens was much better, sweary, action, 80's.. However, I do think I'm the only person on the planet to actually like alien resurrection, although the final alien/hybrid was a bit crap.

I like the look of it, might just scare the bejebus out of me considering the nasty biting things.. but I've said before I liked Prom' so this should fill the gap.

Agree about the mystery stuff. The revelation in Prometheus that the space jockey from the original film was basically a guy in a suit was a real let down and smacked of retconning. In fact I wasn't that keen on the whole Engineers thing.
